Choice and rare plants grown in Gloucestershire
Calamagrostis brachytricha – pinkish flower heads. Looks fantastic in autumn through to winter when the whole plant goes golden-brown. Not too dry, but an easy and reliable grass.
Carex comans ‘Bronze Form’ – thin bronze foliage. Avoid extremes of watering.
Carex comans ‘Frosted Curls’ - narrow leaved sedge with silver colouring, the tips of which curl. A useful plant tolerating relatively dry conditions.
Great in pots, borders or rock gardens. Sun or light shade.
Carex morrowii ‘Fisher’s Form’ – a fantastic choice plant.
Variegated foliage. Sells very well, especially when flowering. Not invasive and is relatively slow growing – a fine tub or garden plant. Soil should not be too dry.
Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’ – “Golden Hakon Grass” – the plant they place in a glazed put on the edge of displays at RHS shows!
Arching habit, nice red autumn colouring. A choice grass for pots or borders. Do not dry it out, otherwise care is easy.
Stipa arundinacea – “Pheasant Grass” – stunning orange-peach foliage colouring. Avoid too much shade and overfeeding.
